tHelp Support AWR

Welcome to the Aboriginal Writers Retreat!

Welcome to Ngadjeri country.

Welcome to Koolunga, the home of the mythical bunyip; a secluded village on the edge of the Clare Valley, in the mid north of South Australia.

The Aboriginal Writers Retreat (AWR) is the dream of poet and author Ali Cobby Eckermann.
Her dream is shared and supported by her friend and fellow Aboriginal poet Mr Lionel Fogarty.

The AWR aims to provide a creative, fun and safe environment for Indigenous literacy and artistic projects.  There is only one vital requirement for guests: to bring friendship and respect with them.

Once running the AWR will provide workshop space (for up to six guests maximum).  Expressions of interest re individual retreats will be considered.  Residencies based on ‘a labour exchange network’ will also be considered.  Any proposal can be forwarded, as AWR views are flexible.

The AWR can assist by supporting funding applications and providing in kind support.  At certain times the AWR will invite special guests to specific group gatherings.

Workshops will mostly be focused to provide literacy mentoring, to all levels of Indigenous writings, in all genres.
